Shonda:

I was always active. I've always been active, my whole life; playing sports all the time and coaching and reffing and always active, on the go...

And then all of a sudden I was the body of a little old lady that couldn't get out of the car.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an everyday struggle.

I had swelling, stiffness...

Mike:

Pain...

Shonda:

Pain. Tired - you have no energy at all.

I used to coach basketball on the high school level. And I also coached softball, too. Then I went from doing that to just not being able to even dribble the basketball... not even dribble. Just even sitting and watching the basketball game that was one of my favorite things...

...my favorite sound in the whole world is basketball shoes squeaking on the court... to just sit through a game was difficult. Cause I wasn't able to sit for a long time...

Mike:

She was a proud woman. She didn't like taking help from people and she couldn't do everyday activities. I mean there was times she couldn't even do her hair. And then that, in turn, she wouldn't go outside...

Shonda:

It's an embarrassing disease, because people can't see. Like, if you have a broken leg they can see a cast or a crutch; but if they don't see your joints, and what's inside, you know, you don't have a sign that says what's wrong with you.

I wasn't able to use my hands hardly for anything. I couldn't open up like soda bottles or a water bottle.

Even like my daughter's open house you have to go to different classrooms and she was saying, "Mom there's a lot of stairs. Are you going to be able to go?"

And that's sad. I couldn't even walk up the stairs you know?

Mike:

It was a dark time. You know as much as you want to help her and love her and, you know, make her quality of life better, they're going through a lot of pain...

Shonda:

When I first was diagnosed - they start you off with a mild medication. And then if that doesn't work, then you go to something else, then if that doesn't work then you go to something else, so I mean, it's trial and error, but I mean it had been, you know, years and it's frustrating because you don't know what to do. And...

Mike:

...And she kept wanting to give it more and more time to kick in and work and finally I kept saying you gotta change, you gotta do something else.

Shonda:

At the point when I couldn't open my water bottle, then I knew that it was time for a change.

Mike:

...And we finally found the one.

Shonda:

My doctor prescribed KEVZARA and that's what finally worked for me.

Individual results may vary.

Shonda:

When I first started taking KEVZARA, it was the first positive thing that we had seen in years.

You know, little by little getting back into walking, tying your shoes... and I can sit in the car and I can move around...

...and then last year, at my daughter Katherine's open house, I walked, and I walked from my house to the school. And she can see the difference and it's amazing for her...

Mike:

...and she can have friends over, she not embarrassed about her mom laying on the couch...

Shonda:

...Yeah, because I mean I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything.

My life is not what it used to be before I had rheumatoid arthritis, but it's a lot better than it was when I was diagnosed.

This is my life today. And with KEVZARA, I'm doing what I need to do.
